Leading Australian propulsion specialist, VEEM, today launched its latest range of
precision-engineered propellers, designed specifically for the production boat market. The new range, named the VEEM R-Series, is targeted at manufacturers looking for a superior quality, fully machined prop but at a highly competitive unit price.
Manufactured to VEEM’s exacting standards, the R-Series, unlike many competitive products, utilises the company’s unique single setup and ‘true 5-axis robotic CNC machining process’ to ensure precision quality results and 100 per cent repeatability to the design. Despite these high design and production standards, the new range will offer buyers savings of up to 40 per cent compared to the company’s market leading VEEMStar fully-custom propeller range, which features the revolutionary ‘Interceptor strips’ for peak performance.
Brad Miocevich, VEEM’s managing director, commented on the R-Series launch, stating: “Quality, reliability and consistency should always be the three core priorities for production boat manufacturers when specifying a new propeller partner. However, we understand that cost remains a key driver, especially when switching suppliers. With that in mind, we set about designing a product that met our quality standards but at a price that is in line with our rivals’ offering.”
According to VEEM, key to maintaining the R-Series’ competitiveness is the rapid production techniques used in its manufacture. By utilising highly automated, advanced methods of moulding, casting, machining and polishing – which only become viable with high volume batch production – the company states that it’s possible to offer a product which exceeds industry expectations in almost every aspect.
“We know some builders choose hand finished or 3-axis CNC machined propellers due to their lower purchase price. Both these methods are likely to involve multiple set ups, which adds inaccuracy to the thickness, pitch, section shape and blade profile of the propeller – unacceptable for a production boat manufacturer. However, with the introduction of the R-Series, which is manufactured to ISO 484/2 Class S, the challenge of achieving high quality standards at an acceptable price has disappeared. With that in mind, why would you choose a propeller with little or no repeatability of design and which is likely to degrade faster when you could have a prop, manufactured using the latest and most advanced 5-axis CNC machining process, for near enough the same money?” added Miocevich.
VEEM is one of only a handful of manufacturers able to utilise in-house CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and FEA (Finite Element Analysis) software to design the optimum propeller for any application. The new R-Series, like all VEEM propeller designs, has been through a rigorous optimisation cycle prior to production – testing how customisation of each geometric variable would affect the propeller’s efficiency and smoothness. The new product surpassed all expectations and delivered outstanding results in all on-the-water testing, across a wide range of vessel types.
